CLEAR, Rwanda
The Association of Rwandan Lawyers of Hope (RLH) seeks to promote justice and contribute to the judicial system through the implementation and respect for human rights. RLH focus on children in conflict with the law.
In this their first year with modest support from CLEAR International, they have set up a legal aid office, from which:
- Legal assistance has been provided
- Research visits into child detention has been undertaken
- Law students have been encouraged to get involved and to undertake pro bono work
The plans for the year ahead include expanding on the number of children's cases in which they provide pro bono representation and contributing to the legal review process currently under way in Rwanda, to ensure children's rights are adequately protected.
